Computer experiments

Saturation-
I created this image as an experiment with vibrancy however I liked the heavy levels of contrast that are displayed in the image as well as the contrast between the pink tones and the military brutality and masculinity of the toy soldiers.

Hue and Saturation-
I created these images as a way of further exploring Phebe Schmidt's use of colour and surrealism in her work.

Mosaic filter, Hue and Saturation-
This image was an experiment around different way to manipulate the subjects beard in shoot 6.

Quadruple Glow edges-
This image was an experiment around different way to manipulate the subjects beard in shoot 6.

This image and the image below were created by editing the individual images separately and then combining them using rulers and cropping tools as well as resizing the original images manually.

Multiple imagery and text-
Image concept to document the various stages of female makeup.

Gif-
Image concept explained in shoot 8.

Firstly you must open each to the images that you wish to use in photoshop and unlock their background.  Then open the timeline feature in photoshop and chose to create a frame animation.

Then alter the length of your first image.

After doing this add more of your images.

Make sure that each of your images are positioned directly above each other.

Arrange your images timings into a formation similar to the one below.

Repeat with all of your images you will sequence.

Before exporting resize all of your images and release the resolution in order to allow them to export then save them for the web or they will not be viewable online.

Split image-
Image concept explained in shoot 1.

Cut out-
Image concept explained in shoot 6.

Open an image of flowers to act as the base layer and place it wear you think the beard will be.

Insert the image of the subjects head over the flowers.

Map out the area which you wish to remove using the pen tool.

Use the rubber tool and zoom in to remove areas of the beard with precision.

Reposition the head to and flowers until you are satisfied and apply edits to the individual layers.  Crop to remove unwanted areas.

Text-
Image concept explained in shoot 7.

Apply rulers to ensure the text is correctly positioned.

Colour swatch the lipstick to create text in the same tone.

Physical experiments

These images are a part of the flower boy series and were created using a combination of glitter glue, glitter, flowers and glue.

The images below were all created using a black marker pen.

I experimented with these images as a way of furthering my 7th shoot Lipstick misconceptions.

This image was an experiment regarding possible shoots which would incorporate elements of plastic surgery.

Print techniques

Black and White-
This image was created as an experiment into possibilities with black and white photography.

Duotone-
This image attempts to convey the fact that both genders should be able to enjoy activities such as sewing due to the purple tone of the image which is supposed to show the combination of blue (masculine) and pink (feminine).

To apply duotone to an image first apply a grayscale to your image from the image mode menu.

Next select duotone from the image mode menu and then click duotone once you have completed this you will be presented with option to alter the colouration of the image do this and then click ok.

Colour select-
Experimentation with colour select.

Use the lasso tool to select the colour that you wish to preserve then from the select menu choose inverse.

Once you have inverted the selection you can alter the image without affecting your chosen colour for example yo could turn the rest of the image black and white or reduce the images saturation.

Joiner photography-
An experimentation into joiner style.
Firstly load the images that you wish to incorporate into your joiner into photoshop and then unlock the images backgrounds.

Create a new file using international paper of your desired dimensions and then insert your first image and resize it.

Then add and resize the rest of your images to change the order of your layers drag layers to the top or bottom of the layers window on the right hand side of the screen.

Finally to edit the entire image for example its saturation create a new layer and alter the levels until you are satisfied and then bring the layer to the top of the layer list so that it effects the entire image if you wish for layers to be unaffected place them above this layer.  Before saving crop any excess edges that you wish to remove.

Soft glow-
An exploration into soft glow and glamour editing.

Insert the image which you wish to edit.

Create a second layer and give it a new name.

Place this layer above your first/background layer.

Then select blur from the filter menu and apply the gaussian blue to the the new layer at a level which you are satisfied with.

To soften the blur alter the images opacity.

Then select the mask tool from the bottom of the right panel on the display.

Finally draw on to the mask using the pen tool (make sure black is set to the primary colour)  and the areas which are drawn on will remove the blur and focus.
