Denotations: Political ideals, Social change
Connotions: Love is not the most important element of life.
Social, Cultural, Historical, and Political meaning:
This image is interesting as it targets societies views of love and goes against the romanticised views that people should be willing to sacrifice everything for love.

Denotations: Political ideals, Social change
Connotions: Not everyones opinion on your life is valid.
Social, Cultural, Historical, and Political meaning: People make poor life choices which can have a detrimental effect on themselves.

Denotations: Political ideals, Social change
Connotions: We all have the means to change our lives for the better or the worst.
Social, Cultural, Historical, and Political meaning: You can blame no one but yourself for the way your life turns out as it is consequence to the way in which you conduct yourself.

I chose to examine Holzer's work due to my interest in her work in the feminist movement through the 1980's.  I was particularly interested in the fact that almost all of her work is comprised of physical installations whether this be stickers or etchings from her student days to her current main form of propaganda projection.  Holzer's bold use of text and colour schemes that whilst are not always black and white focus largely on light and dark contrast create boys eye catching text which draws the viewer in to read her message.  This brazen and bold literal projection of the feminist cause is partly what inspired me to begin this project.
